Sports Personality of the Year
An athlete who has made a significant achievement in the last year in their chosen sport or discipline. This can be at a national or international level and either individually or as part of a team. Open to all athletes– non disabled and those with a disability. Must be aged 18 or over on 1st September 2021.
Young Sports Personality of the Year
An athlete who has made a significant achievement in the last year in their chosen sport or discipline. This can be at a national or international level and either individually or as part of a team. Essex Activity Hero
An individual who has made an outstanding contribution to local sport or physical activity over the years and who has gone above and beyond during the Covid19 pandemic. This could be a person within a sports club, physical activity group, community group etc, who you feel deserves recognition for their commitment to support and develop both themselves and those around them.
Strengthening Communities Award
An organisation or group who can demonstrate they have used physical activity and sport to make a positive impact on their community by leading an initiative to develop connections, promoting stronger, safer communities and ensuring inclusion and resilience. They may work with specific groups such as disability, ethnic diverse communities, women and girls or other underrepresented group.
Active Club of the Year
A club, organisation or community group who have been able to provide organised sport and physical activity opportunities inclusive for all throughout the year to keep their members engaged and to encourage residents to try something new. This group achieved great things or made some stand out changes to make their opportunities accessible for all.
Active Education Award
A school, early years setting, college or university that offers a wide range of opportunities to participate in physical education and extra curricular activity. They’ll help young people understand the importance of daily activity to benefit their health and wellbeing. They may have adopted new initiatives such as The Daily Mile and have made an effort to encourage PE during home schooling durations.
Active Workplace of the Year
A company or department who encourage their employees to be more active whether it be in the office or working from home – generating innovative ideas and opportunities to change sedentary behaviour or promote better physical and mental wellbeing. They may encourage active travel to work and the importance of active lunch and screen breaks.
Active Wellbeing Award
An individual, organisation or group who can demonstrate they have made a positive impact on the mental health and wellbeing of Essex residents. They use physical activity and sport as a key driver for wider health and wellbeing outcomes on their mental and emotional health.
Find Your Active Participant of the Year
This individual has found their active by changing their life habits and using physical activity and sport to make positive impacts to their life. They are an inspiring individual who may have overcome barriers to achieve physical, mental, social or emotional benefits.
Find Your Active Ambassador of the Year
This person or group has used the Find Your Active behaviour change campaign and shown commitment to providing ongoing support and encouragement to those they deliver sport and physical activity opportunities for. They have been a key driving force behind the campaign and in getting people involved.
