The county is being encouraged to put forward nominations, whether that be someone who has recently found their active, a group who has gone above and beyond to support participants mental wellbeing, or elite level athletes who have succeeded in their sport. Nominations are now OPEN and will close on midnight Wednesday 5th October. So if you know someone, who should be recognised for their physical activity achievements, or someone who has motivated you to get moving, nominate them today!

2022 Awards Categories

Sports Personality of the Year

An athlete who has made a significant achievement in the last year in their chosen sport or discipline. This can be at a national or international level and either individually or as part of a team. Open to all athletes – non-disabled and those with a disability. Must be aged 18 or over on 1st September 2022.

Young Sports Personality of the Year

An athlete who has made a significant achievement in the last year in their chosen sport or discipline. This can be at a national or international level and either individually or as part of a team. Open to all athletes – non-disabled and those with a disability. Must be aged under 18 on 1st September 2022.

Unsung Hero

A volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to local sport or physical activity over the years. This could be a dedicated volunteer who you feel deserves recognition for their commitment to supporting and developing opportunities for residents in Essex to get active.

Strengthening Communities Award

An organisation or group who can demonstrate they have used physical activity and sport to make a positive impact on their community by leading an initiative to develop connections, promoting stronger, safer communities and ensures inclusion and resilience. They may work with specific
groups such as disability, ethnic diverse communities, women and girls or other underrepresented group.

Active Club of the Year

A club who have been able to provide organised sport and physical activity opportunities inclusive for all throughout the year to keep their members engaged and to encourage residents to try something new. This group achieved great things or made some stand out changes to make their opportunities accessible for all.

Active Education Award

A school, early years setting, college or university that gives its pupils a wide range of opportunities to participate in high quality physical education and extra curricular sport. They will help young people understand and embrace daily exercise as beneficial to their health and wellbeing at school and beyond the academic years. They have adopted new initiatives such as The Daily Mile and have made an effort to encourage PE during home schooling durations.

Active Workplace of the Year

A company or department who encourages their employees to be more active in the workplace whether it be in the office or working from home – generating innovative ideas and opportunities to change sedentary behaviour or promote better physical and mental wellbeing. They may encourage active travel to work and the importance of active lunch and screen breaks.

Wellbeing Award

An individual, organisation or group who support the wellbeing of residents in Essex through the use of physical activity, which has in turn positively impacted participants mental and emotional health.

Active and Inclusive Award

An individual, organisation or group that has has had an impact on a community such as those living with a disability, from an ethnically diverse background, or another underrepresented group. They will have helped to advance their interest and participation in physical activity, ensuring the opportunity is inclusive and accessible.

Find Your Active Funded Project of the Year

A club, group or initiative which has excelled since receiving FYA funding (Jan22-Dec22). This could be because they have developed further opportunities and gone above and beyond to support participants to overcome barriers to make positive impacts to their life.

Ambassador of the Year

A TGCE, Essex All Together or FYA ambassador who have gone the extra mile in inspiring and supporting residents and communities to try something new, reach new goals or be a helping hand in taking the first step towards an active lifestyle.
