Women across Chelmsford celebrated International Women’s Day by attending a fitness-filled day at the Women Like Us festival.
Active Essex wanted to celebrate with women in Chelmsford through dancing, moving and inspiring. From SOSA Dance Fitness and Kick Boxing to Burlesque and Yoga, the festival offered taster sessions for a range of activities with the aim of encouraging women and girls to try out something new and be inspired to keep active.
The festival took place at Writtle University College and sessions were run by a range of local organisations and This Girl Can Essex ambassadors to showcase the variety of fantastic opportunities available in the local community.
Megan Huggins from Chelmsford commented on the event: “I loved trying lots of new activities. It was great to have so many women join in the event for International Women’s Day and empower one another. The festival had a really good vibe and I loved spending my morning with like-minded individuals getting more active!”
The Women Like Us festival supports the national This Girl Can campaign. We now have over 350 This Girl Can Essex ambassadors who inspire women in their local community to get active, meet new people and have fun. The ambassador programme is run by Active Essex and is part of their ambition to change 1 million lives.
Hollie Wood, Active Essex Assistant Relationship Manager for Mid Essex said: “It was fantastic to see so many women come together for International Women’s Day, to try lots of different activities. There was a real sense of community about the event with women motivating and inspiring one another along the way.”
