Women across Epping celebrated International Women’s Day by attending a fitness-filled day at the Women Like Us festival.

Active Essex wanted to celebrate the women in Epping through dancing, moving and inspiring. From Dance Aerobics and Body Pump to Pilates and Taekwondo, the festival offered taster sessions for a range of activities and sports with the aim of encouraging women and girls to try out something new and be inspired to keep active.

The festival took place at Epping Sports Centre and sessions were run by a range of local organisations and This Girl Can Essex ambassadors to showcase the variety of fantastic opportunities available in the local community.

Festival goer, Carole Abbam said: “The Women Like Us festivals really are for every women – regardless of age or fitness ability – it’s all about getting out there, having a go and having fun! A warm welcome was extended to all.”

The Women Like Us festival supports the national This Girl Can campaign. We now have over 350 This Girl Can Essex ambassadors who inspire women in their local community to get active, meet new people and have fun. The ambassador programme is run by Active Essex and is part of their ambition to change 1 million lives.

Courtenay Molsey, Active Essex Assistant Relationship Manager for West Essex said: “It was fantastic to see so many women come together for International Women’s Day, to try lots of different activities. There was a real sense of community about the event with women motivating and inspiring one another along the way.”
