Name of delivery organisation: She Can Play
Aim of project: She Can Play is an organization that is aiming to get more girls/women into Football. A weekly sessions already existed for 7-11 year olds however wanted to open a session up to 14-25 year olds one and one for women 25+ who do no currently play for a Football team but would like to get fit and have fun playing. The aim of the project was also to introduce new women to try football and also re-engage those who used to play.
Numbers engaged: 40
Targeted audience: women and girls/ mums and daughters
Project success: Lots of success getting parents of girls already in younger coaching to join in. Two of the women are now continuing She Can Play as volunteer coaches. 7 of the women have continued engagement through playing for She Can Play team in The FA’s biggest amateur 5 a side competition in March and one has progressed to play for Southend.
Project challenges: The main challenge was the cold weather at this time of the year, as soon as the clocks went back and the nights became darker there was a drop in attendance. Tried to combat this through adding a prize each week to player of the week and a money voucher to the player of the season.
