I am Nicki Edwards, 45 and single mum to three, now grown up, children 22, 20 and 18. I live in Braintree and I took up running 15 years ago, to lose some weight and got hooked after running the London Marathon in 2003. I have since run many races from 5ks to ultra-marathons. Long distance, trail running is my favourite way to spend my leisure time and not being a fast runner this suits me brilliantly!
Running has been and still is a huge part of my life and although now older I have a son who is registered blind and the other has recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Running helps my stress levels and that time for myself enables me to deal with the difficulties that my day to day life can throw at me, looking after my own mental health means I can support them better, so you can see it’s not just the health/fitness gains that gets me to put my trainers on and out of the door!
I teach PE in a primary school and am also a level two fitness instructor, training to become a personal trainer. I recently launched Bonkers Fitness, to encourage others to take up outdoor running and fitness sessions. I am also part of the core team at Great Notley parkrun and love seeing others begin their running journey with us as well as the super speedy 18 minute runners!
My personal fitness goal is to complete a 100-mile race, I run most days, sometimes alone, with my dog or with friends. I love exercising outside and enjoy encouraging others to do the same. Hopefully I can get some of you to join me for a run or walk out on the trails sometime soon!
