Azeem Akhtar, the Active Essex Chair reflects: “I’m proud of this report, not only because it details – by numbers as you would expect – the impacts we are making in key areas, but more importantly, it tells the story of the individuals and communities we are working with hand in hand to co-design and co-produce local projects that are really tackling the issues around inactivity.
While there are no ‘magic bullets’ or single, simple solutions to tackling the issue, we are beginning to make inroads. There are 14,900 extra people engaged in 150 minutes of physical activity a week. We are not complacent. We understand the importance of building relationships and trust within our communities, empowering them and working with them together.
You will also read in the report what the Active Essex team is doing to ready themselves for the future. Change starts from within and we are challenging ourselves to work differently, work co-operatively, work with our current partners and the new ones that it seems daily we are finding.
