Wheelchair basketball, handcycling, wheelchair rugby and powerlifting
Hi my name’s Paul and I’m a national league wheelchair basketball player from Kirby le-Soken, Tendring. I’m also involved in other sports such as handcycling, wheelchair rugby and powerlifting too.
After being disabled from the armed forces I lost my way and tried taking my own life. I was introduced to wheelchair racing and basketball and my life turned around! It gave me meaning and a purpose in life again, something I could be proud of and more importantly my family could be proud of. I became a level 2 coach in wheelchair basketball to enable me to teach others about the sport.
Sport is important to me as it gives me balance in both mind and body to overcome the adversities of my disability and to give me the tools to cope with what life throws at me.
Some of my biggest achievements include; 9 London marathons, 320 other marathons around the world, representing GB at the Invictus Games and becoming a basketball coach.
I have become an All Together ambassador to enable me to pass on my experiences and help as many people as possible to achieve their goals. To lift the barriers that as disabled people we come across every day which discourages us to try things that push us and would help us move forward.
