The networking event will bring together individuals and organisations from across the system and county to share and learn. Each individual who attends, will have the opportunity to take something from the event, and implement straight away into their work, benefitting the lives of our residents.

The Share – Connect – Collaborate Networking Event will be for Essex partners and organisations, and following on from our previous event last November, we will hear from keynote speakers, Active Essex Chair Dr William Bird MBE, Karen Creavin Chief Executive of The Active Wellbeing Society and Lucy Saunders Founder of Healthy Streets. Find out more about our keynote speakers below:

Dr William Bird MBE

Dr William Bird is a GP and CEO of Intelligent Health. He has been passionate about getting people more active since the mid-1990s when he set up Health Walks and the Green Gym from his practice near Reading. William is also CEO and founder of Intelligent Health which gets whole towns and cities more active using gamification with a strong emphasis on reaching the more disadvantaged communities. His enthusiasm about getting people connected to nature led the Independent on Sunday newspaper to vote him as one of the top 100 people in Britain to make people happy. Last year, he was appointed as Active Essex Chair, supporting the team to have a lasting and meaningful change in improving health through community connections.

Karen Creavin - Chief Executive of The Active Wellbeing Society

A community benefit society and cooperative, based in Birmingham, working to tackle inequality and promote community wellbeing. She is an innovative public service leader, with a reputation for disrupting, provoking and inspiring change, pushing at the boundaries of provision and always fighting for the least heard voices. She has overseen the delivery of multi-million pound projects, operated at a senior level within Europe’s largest local authority and influenced significant system change across health, transport, sport and physical activity. Karen understands how to shift systems and facilitate transformative change across sectors, how to speak truth to power, and how to lean in, be with and fully engage with underrepresented communities at scale.

Lucy Saunders - Founder of Healthy Streets

Healthy Streets was developed by Lucy Saunders through her research on the interface of urban spaces and human health. She is a unique combination of public health specialist, urbanist and transport planner. Lucy works with organisations across the world adapting her Healthy Streets Approach to each context. She also collaborates with kind and brilliant people to create exciting new things that help to improve population health. The success of the Healthy Streets approach is that it engages and influences a wide range of stakeholders around a coherent vision. Lucy is a skilled and engaging presenter and teacher who has inspired and trained hundreds of practitioners, advocates and politicians around the world.

We will be hosting a number of workshops focusing on impact and hearing practical examples from partners and individuals from across the sector, as a way of sharing and learning. Delegates will hear from a range of partners, celebrate achievements and success from the past year, and look at ways to continue to work towards creating an active Essex for everyone’s health and wellbeing.  Find out more about our workshops below:
