Chelmsford

I am a retired international athlete. I now engage in physical activity for health and fitness

As a child I became a campaigner for the inclusion of disabled children in sport and play.  This led me to become an advisor to the Department of Education in my early teens, a position which involved meeting government ministers from various departments as well as the Department of Education.

At the same time, my interest in participating in competitive sport developed at school and was encouraged by a particular teacher.  By the age of 15, I became world champion and world record holder at the CPISRA World Championships in the USA where I was part of the Welsh National Squad.  I found that I also had other talents in Boccia and went on to twice win the Disability Sport England National Championship and the Welsh National Championship. It then became natural for me to academically focus on sports related study.  After taking my ‘A’ Levels, I went on to gain a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science and then I attained an MSc in Biomechanics (Merit).  I am now passionate about sport and encouraging others to participate.

I have had to overcome barriers in order to take part in sport; I have a significant disability affecting all 4 limbs, speech, eyesight, spine and general health.  I have faced huge barriers to gain both financial and physical support in sport.  The invisible barriers such as politics in sport have been particularly difficult to deal with

Sport is extremely beneficial to physical and mental health and helps individuals to live a fulfilled life. Sport also has societal benefits in the respect that it brings communities together.

I have become an All Together ambassador as it is an opportunity to promote my passion for sport and inspire others to take up a physically active lifestyle.
