Family actively cleaning up their community

Active Essex

Amy Melton, Community Connector for Maldon district, has been helping her community to find their active in many ways. Amy has even helped encourage families to get active together. Mum of two, Clare, got in touch with Amy as she had seen social media posts about community litter picks and she wanted to get involved in litter picking with her children, but she didn’t have access to any equipment to do this.

Clare’s two sons, Charlie aged 8 and Finley aged 6, enjoy being active by playing on their bikes and scooters and running around at the park. Amy got in touch with Clare and offered to give her an adult and child litter picker so that she could enjoy being active with her sons, whilst clearing up rubbish in the local area. Amy delivered the kit to Clare, and they proceeded to do a litter pick the following weekend.

Clare shared, ‘Thank you for the kit. The boys loved their first day out with their pickers. They have already asked when they can go and do some more.’ Charlie explained, ‘It’s great to pick up litter, as it’s saving our planet but it’s shocking sometimes what we find.’ Finley said, ‘I loved picking up the litter and making the park clean.’

Clare has said that she keeps the pickers in the car so the family can pick wherever they go and when they fancy it. They are now planning to continue being active and go litter picking at least once a month.
