Conflict Management Workshops for Sports Club Officers and Volunteers

Active Essex in partnership with Essex FA and Essex Cricket are delighted to offer a series of webinars aimed at supporting grass roots club committee members, welfare officers and coaches across all sports to develop and improve their conflict management skills.

This is a pilot project aimed initially at football and cricket clubs. If successful it will be rolled out more widely in the future.

The series consists of three two hour webinar sessions delivered online.

Session 1 - Challenging Conversations - Tuesday 7 April 2026, 19:00 to 21:00

During this session you will:

Understand of the value of conflict.
Explore why people find conflict difficult.
Develop an awareness of different conflict management styles and our own style.
Understand the interests and needs that are concealed by positions/behaviours.
Recognise the difference between judgements and observations in our conversations and the impact this has when effectively resolving conflict

Session 2 - Conflict Resolution/Mediation Skills Toolbox - Tuesday 12 May, 19:00 to 21:00

This session will cover the core skills used in mediation to help others resolve conflict this will include

Situational awareness
Reflective listening
The importance of empathy
The importance of self-empathy
Self-awareness

Session 3 - Conversational Integrity Skills practice - Tuesday 9 June, 19:00 to 21:00

Giving and receiving feedback
As a final session we would allow for as much skill practice as possible
