I’m Alex and I am the Principal at the Flitch Green Academy in Dunmow. I love all things sport and I’m really passionate about physical and mental health for all.

I have decided to take part in the Ford RideLondon-Essex 100-mile route as I watched my brother-in-law complete it last year and it looked like an incredible event, however I’m not sure if it will be as enjoyable whilst being in the saddle though…

I have completed two Olympic distance Triathlons, including the London Triathlon in 2022. I have always cycled, starting in primary school where I aimed to cycle a mile each day, then at secondary school to the bus stop each day. As my rugby playing days are nearing an end, I have enjoyed weekend and evening cycles with friends in the summer months. I have a ‘fixie’ bike that I use for commutes and a road bike that I ride on longer routes.

To help inspire my pupils to take up cycling, I will be running some cycle events at school, as well as an assembly showcasing the benefits of cycling, factoring in important safety rules and tips. I would like to invite parents into school who are also keen cyclists, to allow them to share their hobby with our pupils in a safe, enclosed space.
