Dr Ronan Fenton is an Integrated Care Systems (ICS) Medical Director living in Maldon

Although I have never been athletic, I enjoy running and cycling. The observations I’ve made in my job as a consultant anaesthetist made me realise the importance of fitness in prolonging and improving quality of life.

To me, “Find Your Active” means increasing the amount of physical activity I do. Whether by a small or large amount, it all counts and will help me to live longer and help our health and care systems last longer. In the communities I am part of, increasing movement is important as it increases our quality of life, whilst decreasing our dependence on health and care.

I wanted to be involved in the Find Your Active campaign, because as an ICS Medical Director, I strongly believe I should role model behaviour. I believe that increasing our engagement in physical activity is the most impactful intervention we can make to improve our quality of life.
