Over 1 in 2 children and young people across Essex do not take part in the recommended 60 minutes of activity a day, and 25% of young people report zero positive attitudes towards physical activity and sport (Active Lives 2023). Move With Us is here to change things. We want you to get involved and help us inspire, motivate and encourage young people to find what’s right for them, supporting them to try new activities, whether that be traditional or more informal movement. In our eyes, all movement is good movement.

As the Move With Us campaign develops, we want to ensure youth voice is at the forefront. We will be regularly developing and building the campaign using the thoughts and feelings collected from young people, to ensure what we’re producing is right and relatable to them. To do this, we recognise that adopting Move With Us using a place-based approach is essential, as local communities and young peoples requirements to get active are very different.

Below we have shared the extensive research carried out around the campaign, as well as some pointers of how to adopt and embed Move With Us locally.

Take a look at the research

An extensive amount of research, has been carried out to inform the campaign developments. Understanding young people's motivators and barriers to physical activity helps to us to understand gaps in provision, and ways to support young people to find the opportunities to get active.

To launch the campaign we held a webinar for system partners to attend, to hear first hand about the research and how the campaign has been designed as a result. The webinar was hosted by young people who attend Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Primary School, and included presentations from Dr William Bird MBE setting the scene on the importance of young people getting outside and moving, followed by our research findings and objectives of the campaign.
