Congratulations to Henley Stevens, who has been named the Move With Us Move Maker for August in recognition of his outstanding commitment to volunteering, supporting his community and inspiring others through his positive attitude and dedication.
At just 15 years old, Henley has already made a remarkable impact through his involvement with the Thurrock Big Lunches, where he has volunteered for the past three years. Known for his enthusiasm, reliability and willingness to help wherever needed, Henley has become an integral part of every event and a familiar face within the community.
This year, Henley took on the important role of Chief Car Parker, embracing the responsibility with confidence and determination. Never one to shy away from a challenge, he also matched an incredible 30,000-step Ben Nevis challenge, completing the milestone during a single Big Lunch event day.
Volunteering is very much a family affair for Henley. Alongside his dad, affectionately known as “Little Legs Lee”, who provides the DJ entertainment at each event, Henley is there from the very beginning to the very end. From helping with set-up at 9:30am to supporting pack-down at 5:30pm, he dedicates his entire day to ensuring the events run smoothly and that everyone attending has a fantastic experience.
What makes Henley such a deserving Move Maker is his readiness to get involved in absolutely anything. Whether he is assisting with event logistics, supporting activities, helping participants or tackling less glamorous jobs behind the scenes, he approaches every task with a smile and a positive attitude. His energy and work ethic set a brilliant example for fellow volunteers and the young people who attend the events.
Henley’s enthusiasm shines through in every aspect of the Big Lunches. He can often be found joining in with activity sessions and dance taster classes, bringing fun and energy to the day while encouraging others to get involved. His confidence and infectious enthusiasm help create a welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels included.
Beyond the Big Lunches, Henley is also a dedicated member of the Thurrock Scouts Association. Having progressed through the movement from Beaver Scout to Explorer Scout, he continues to demonstrate leadership, commitment and a passion for helping others. Earlier this summer, he volunteered at the Scouts’ summer play scheme, camping for the week and helping to organise and deliver activities for younger children.
Henley’s commitment to supporting young people extends even further. During the summer he also worked alongside JTD Arts as part of the Essex ActivAte Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, where he continued to inspire and encourage other young people through his kindness, positivity and leadership.
Looking ahead, Henley hopes to build on his volunteering experience through opportunities such as Camp America or the Disney USA Scheme, allowing him to further develop his leadership skills while making a positive difference to even more young people around the world.
Henley truly embodies everything that being a Move Maker is all about. His dedication, community spirit, leadership and passion for helping others make him an exceptional role model and a worthy recipient of this month’s award.
Congratulations, Henley, on being named the Move With Us Move Maker for August, and thank you for everything you do to support your community and inspire those around you.
