How Shimmy & Groove Fitness is Empowering Women to Move

For many women and girls, finding the right place to be active can be difficult due to not feeling confident or the feeling of not belonging in the space. When getting involved in physical activity it’s so important to feel comfortable, supported and included. Which is exactly what Shimmy & Groove Fitness set out to create.

This is something reflected more widely through initiatives like the Women and Girls Like Us campaign, which celebrates inclusive, welcoming spaces that help women feel they belong in physical activity. Like Shimmy & Groove, it shines a light on the importance of creating environments where women can move in ways that feel right for them.

“I started Shimmy ‘n’ Groove Fitness Ltd as I felt there was a need for a community spirit place to exercise with fun, easy routines and an inclusive space.”

Lindsey, founder of Shimmy & Groove wanted to create movement that feels good and not intimidating. She has created a space where you can show up as you are and explore what helps you feel your best.

“It’s a safe space for people to find what type of exercise activities help them feel energised and great in their own skin.”

Shimmy & Groove supports wellbeing further than physical activity. Sessions run six days a week, in person, online and through an on-demand library, where there are opportunities for everyone to get involved in a way that works for them.

“As a social group of all ages, we offer opportunities for attending social events such as meals, dinners and other local fitness activities… we also provide a sunny holiday where people can enjoy travelling with like-minded people.”

By having this welcoming approach, Lindsey has managed to build a great community. “We’re all working together to discover what works for us as an individual, no competition or judgement, you come simply as you are, and leave feeling better!” Sessions are adapted to suit the group, helping everyone feel included while still building confidence and strength.

Over time, that supportive environment has a real impact. Participants often form friendships, grow in confidence and feel more connected. “Most people say that they have worked hard but don’t notice the time passing by,” the founder shares, a sign that enjoying movement really does make a difference.

If you’re thinking about giving it a go, the message is clear:
“Bring your sense of fun! Find what helps you feel fabulous.”
