This month, we are thrilled to recognise Tia as February’s #MoveWithUs Move Maker, celebrating her incredible journey through the Big Sister programme and the positive impact she continues to have on others.
The programme helps girls aged 9-15 in target areas feel ‘sport ready’ by recruiting a network of ‘Big Sisters’ – peer leaders and supporters from sport, school and community organisations. Sport leaders will be trained on the emotional and physical barriers girls face.
Tia has been involved in the programme since the very beginning, joining after her mum recognised how much she could benefit from the supportive environment Big Sister offers. From her very first session, Tia quickly became a familiar face, showing up regularly, embracing new experiences, and gradually finding her voice within the group.
Over time, her confidence has flourished.
What began as a personal journey of self belief has grown into something much bigger. As Tia developed her confidence, she started to feel more at ease within group settings. She is now someone younger or newer participants naturally gravitate towards, a calm, positive presence who helps others feel comfortable and welcome. Her peers value her warmth, approachability, and the steady reassurance she brings to every session.
The impact of Tia’s journey reaches far beyond the programme doors.
At home, her mum has noticed meaningful shifts too. Conversations about milestones, emotions, and personal development, once difficult to navigate, now happen more naturally. This change speaks not only to Tia’s increased confidence but also to the strengthened communication and connection she has built with the people closest to her.
What makes Tia’s story so special is the ripple effect she has created.
By finding her own confidence, she has empowered other young girls to find theirs. She has become someone who lifts others up simply by being herself, engaging openly in discussions, supporting her peers, and contributing positively both in sessions and in everyday life.
Tia embodies what it means to be a Move Maker:
- Growing in confidence
- Strengthening connections with others
- Creating an inclusive, supportive environment
- Inspiring her peers to believe in themselves
We couldn’t be prouder to celebrate Tia as our February #MoveWithUs Move Maker. Her journey reflects the heart of the Big Sister programme, empowering young girls to support themselves and each other, one positive step at a time.
