Active Essex Director joins Sport England Board

We are pleased to announce, that Director of Active Essex, Jason Fergus, has been appointed to join the Sport England Board, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has confirmed. Jason, heads up Active Essex and the Essex Local Delivery Pilot and will add the new Sport England role to his work in Essex.

Over the past ten years, he has led Active Essex to become one of the most prominent of the 43 Active Partnerships across England, and Jason also heads up the delivery of a Sport England Local Delivery Pilot in Essex which is successfully testing new ways to drive up physical activity levels across Essex.

Chris Boardman, Chairman of Sport England, said, “I know that Jason will be an outstanding member of the Board, using his talent and passion to help take Sport England to new heights and deliver our ambitious 10-year strategy, Uniting the Movement.”

Commenting on Jason’s appointment to the Sport England Board, Active Essex Chair Dr William Bird MBE said: “I’m so pleased for Jason and his exciting new role, and I know that his 10+ years’ experience as an Active Partnership Director, will bring invaluable insight to the board, especially from working alongside local communities in Essex. With his background as a successful athlete and total dedication to embed community sport and physical activity into the communities of Essex, Jason is a fantastic appointment to the Sport England Board.”

Additionally, Essex County Council Deputy Leader, Cllr Louise McKinlay, said: “Jason has impressed me with his ability to develop strong and lasting relationships, which as a result, had led to so many sectors and organisations backing the 10-year strategy to drive up activity levels across Essex, especially in our levelling up places. I know he will apply as much energy to his new role with Sport England Board as he does to his leadership of Active Essex.”
