The annual Essex Activity Awards, delivered by Active Essex, returns to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Essex, Southend and Thurrock individuals, organisations and groups, and those who have inspired and supported the county to find their active.
The county is being encouraged to put forward nominations, whether that be someone who has recently found their active, a group who has gone above and beyond to support participants mental wellbeing, or elite level athletes who have succeeded in their sport. The newly branded Essex Activity Awards want to showcase that everyone can be active, and the event is about celebrating achievements, no matter how big or small to show the real impact physical activity and sport can make on the lives of our residents across the county.
To honour 10 years of the annual Active Essex awards and in line with their new 10-year physical activity and sport strategy; Fit for the Future, this year’s categories have been refreshed and reflect the key priorities, which aim to create an active Essex to improve everyone’s health and wellbeing.
Keen to retain the traditional categories such as Sports Personality and Active Education Award, Active Essex are introducing five new awards to ensure they celebrate individuals and organisations that deserve the recognition for their commitment in supporting residents through physical activity during the pandemic. To coincide with Active Essex’s Find Your Active campaign, two categories will be dedicated to individuals who have recently begun their active journey or supported residents to find the activity that’s right for them.
Azeem Akhtar, Chairman of Active Essex, said: “For our 10-year anniversary, it’s been great that we’ve been able to give the awards a refresh to ensure we recognise the fantastic spirit that has been shown across the county, especially during the past 18 months. People have been inspired to move more and have come together as a community, in what has been a difficult time. Active Essex want to continue to inspire and motivate residents and in celebrating many achievements, we hope it will kick-start more people in the journey to a healthier lifestyle. We’d like to see as many nominations as possible this year, especially as we weren’t able to hold the traditional awards last December.”
Nominations need to be submitted by Sunday 10th October 2021 and can be made here.
