Essex Alltogether Ambassadors complete Superhero Series

Active Essex

This year’s Superhero Series took place by Dorney Lake in Windsor, on Sunday 2nd December. This year two of our Active Essex All Together Ambassadors took a team to compete and raise money for our Active Essex Foundation.

Billy Mansell, a Coach Core, Active Essex apprentice and All Together ambassador took a team to compete in the 1k sprint, 5k and 10k race around the lake.  The Superhero Series is the UK’s only disability sports series for the Everyday Superhero.

Before the event, Billy told us the reasons he wanted to take a team; “I chose to do this event because it is so empowering. Through the event I aim to reach out to those with similar conditions to consider the doors that are being opened. There can be many adaptations so that everyone with all abilities can take part and that those around them can be there to support them through this journey using the power of support.”

Billy Mansell and Lee Patmore took on the 10k in under 35 minutes. Billy went on to complete the 1k and finished first.

After the event we caught up with Billy and Lee, who said, “Today we did our best and enjoyed ourselves very much. Both of our Fibromyalgia may have kicked in which put up barriers. But with the power of support and a strong mindset we both completed the 10k ride. We are proud of ourselves today, and despite a lack of training and recent poor health, we did it! The Superhero spirit is unleashed!”
