What is the Active Essex Key Stage 1 Award?
With previously no mechanism by which to officially recognise excellence in delivery of physical activity, P.E and school sport in Key Stage 1, we are proud to offer schools the opportunity to apply for an Active Essex Key Stage 1 Award.
The award considers how schools are supporting positive early movement opportunities by developing pupil’s physical literacy – confidence, competence, enjoyment, knowledge and understanding – and also enabling ALL pupils to experience a broad range of experiences from ages 5-7.
Why apply for the Active Essex Key Stage 1 Award?
The effort of school staff does not go unnoticed and this impacts on children’s early movement experiences significantly. Schools can use the Active Essex Key Stage 1 Award as an opportunity to:
Successful applicants will receive a framed certificate , digital logo and be invited to the annual Active Essex Key Stage 1 Awards Ceremony.
- Plan for further development of PE, physical activity and school sport provision
Schools utilise the questions and criteria, as a self-assessment tool to improve future provision. What is the offer like for SEND pupils? Do all children experience a range of sports, games or activities? How regularly are pupils physically active across the school day?
How to apply for the Active Essex Key Stage 1 Award?
Complementing the Youth Sports Trust School Games Mark, this is a rolling application and schools can apply for the Active Essex Key Stage 1 Award at any time of year via the form below.
There are two panel review periods, Autumn and Summer half term, once approved, this award will be valid for 2 years. Applications will be assessed by a panel assembled by Active Essex and the wider PE and Sports network, which may include a verification visit by a relevant member.
The next deadline for applications is Friday 10th November 2023
Applications for 2023-24 award should reflect provision in place for 2022-23 and current practice.
