Yellow Door continues to support youngsters mental wellbeing across Essex

Essex ActivAte

Based in Southeast Essex, Yellow Door Youth Hub are a health and wellbeing organisation who’ve been running for over 20 years, offering a wide range of clubs, services and support to young people in the Castle Point district. Some of the services the charity provide are information and advice, emotional support, education, counselling, courses and free activities.

With their main aim being ‘to help young people achieve their fullest potential in education, employment, family life and society’, Yellow Door work alongside Essex ActivAte and Active Essex, offering free clubs during half term and holidays to secondary school children. The clubs focus on physical activity, enrichment sessions and food education to support the physical and mental wellbeing of youngsters.

Each week, the charity offers extra clubs outside of the ActivAte programme to ensure there is something for everyone. Physical activity such as multi-sports and dance are offered to children aged between 11-16, as well as a chance to enjoy afternoons at the skate park and get creative with arts and crafts. Physical activity is not only good for physical health, but it’s just as important to mental wellbeing, and this can be a great mechanism to help support young people who may be struggling with poor mental health.

Their youth bus attends clubs regularly, which encourages youngsters to get talking with youth workers and sports coaches in a confidential setting. ‘Social Skill’ is an incentive service at the Yellow Door, to help develop social skills, confidence and reduce anxiety. Hope Box is another incentive provided, supporting young people aged 11-16 with worries and anxiety through a 4-week course.

During the 2022 winter programme, Yellow Door hosted Christmas parties and festive experiences for youngsters. This included discussing Christmas Traditions to understand the ways people celebrate Christmas, enjoying a delicious roast dinner with presents, creating festive crafts such as crackers, baking Christmas biscuits and heading to the local cinema to watch a film, finished with a meal out.

One parent told us: “Many thanks to you and Yellow Door, my child had a great time at the holiday club, and we really appreciate the club and outings you provide!”

We look forward to continuing to work with Yellow Door Youth Club across Active Essex and thank them for all their continued hard work in supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of young people in Essex.
