Sport England published their latest Active Lives Adults report in April 2021, which with five years of data, provides an updated comprehensive overview of adult (age 16+) participation in sport and physical activity in England, covering the Mid-November 2019 to Mid-November 2020 period.
In Essex, 901,000 (60.6%) adults are active, 177,900 (12%) are fairly active, 408,400 (27.5%) are inactive. Activity levels were hit hardest during the initial phase of the pandemic, and the proportion of the population classed as active dropped by 7.1%. Just 52% of the NS -SEC 6 -8 cohort are active, the lowest by far.
