Hi my name is Gary and I manage Colchester VI Running Network and I am a England Athletics VI Running Champion.
I have always been interested in sport and played football through school up until my late twenties (then life got in the way). I started running 8 years ago to lose weight and I am a member of Sudbury Joggers.
I completed a sight loss awareness and guide running workshop with England Athletics and became a licenced guide around three and a half years ago. After a while I realised that there wasn’t many natural pathways into running with a guide, so have spent the last two and a half years promoting VI/Guide Running.
I have delivered running with a guide taster sessions, and also have had the pleasure of running British Blind Sport’s guide running section at their Cambridge and Surrey Have a Go Days amongst other events. I have now set up Colchester VI Running Network, which is as much about socialising as it is about fitness.
Sport has always been my balance, and has always given me time to reset. I am passionate now to use sport as a way of giving people the opportunity to access the fitness and socialising side of the sport I love running.
