Deal with a Concern

There are lots of places you can go for support if you have a concern. The important thing is that, even if you are unsure, you talk to someone and get advice. (Don’t worry if you are unsure who to contact from this list, all of these organisation will support you to get the right help):
Is there immediate danger or injury?
If yes – Contact the emergency services, Police and/or Ambulance Service
Report or seek advice on a sports related concern:
If the sport or activity has a National Governing Body, refer to their safeguarding procedures about who to report the concern to.

Safeguarding in Sport

Safeguarding is the general term for the protection of people from exploitation and abuse by others.

Sport and physical recreation activities often place individuals in a position of significant influence over other people. A high level of trust is placed on such individuals by parents, carers and the participants themselves. In the vast majority of cases that level of trust is more than repaid through the commitment, dedication and selflessness of people involved in organising and delivering sports and activities, but occasionally that trust can be abused. All organisations and individuals involved in sport should be aware of the risks and act promptly to deal with any concern.

Child Protection in Sport Unit (CSPU)

The Child Protection in Sport Unit is part of the NSPCC and is funded by Sport England, Sport Northern Ireland, Sport Wales and UK Sport.

Safeguarding Adults in Sport & Physical Activity

Safeguarding Adults in Sport and Activity is a project to develop best practice in safeguarding adults at risk delivered by the Ann Craft Trust.

Essex Safeguarding Children Board

There are seven agencies in Essex who are jointly responsible by law for keeping children safe. These are called the Statutory Partners and they are the key decision makers who form the ESCB Executive. The board offer information, advice, training and support.
