ACTIVE ESSEX

Active Essex leads the work of the LDP and is located within the Public Health service of Essex County Council. Active Essex is one of 43 Active Partnerships across England, working with community partners to increase participation in sport and physical activity across Greater Essex. The Active Essex strategy is to get 1 million people active by driving and sustaining participation in physical activity and sport.

Active Essex operates five hubs across 12 district local authorities and 2 unitary local authorities. The LDP is an important strand of the work of Active Essex, leading the focus on tackling high levels of physical inactivity, particularly in the most disadvantaged areas of Essex.

LDP GOVERNANCE

The LDP governance is overseen by the Essex Health and Wellbeing Board, chaired by Cllr John Spence, Essex County Council cabinet member for Health and Adult Social Care. The LDP is supported by a Strategic Sponsors Group made up of system leaders across Essex who want to champion the work of the LDP and the value of physical activity to health and wellbeing. The Strategic Sponsors Group is also chaired by Cllr John Spence.

Implementation groups have been established in Basildon, Colchester and Tendring made up of the key local stakeholders including local citizens. The implementation groups are responsible for creating a bespoke local LDP plan and for co-producing investment linked to the plan.
